Reminder for Residents

To help keep our sewer system working properly for everyone, please make sure that rainwater and groundwater are not connected to your home’s sanitary sewer line.

This includes things like:

• Roof downspouts

• Sump pumps

• Foundation or footing drains

• Areaway or window well drains

These should drain outside—such as into your yard or a proper stormwater system—not into the same pipes used for sinks, toilets, and showers.

Any person found in violation of this ordinance can be fined under The Sutherland Code of Ordinances: Chapter 25.

Keeping these systems separate helps prevent sewer backups, reduces flooding risks, and keeps treatment costs down for the whole community.
